Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup vanilla pastry cream
  • 1/2 cup sugar for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each.
  4. Stir in vanilla extract.
  5. In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
  6. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture.
  7. Scoop tablespoon-sized balls onto parchment-lined sheets.
  8. Press indentations in the center and fill with vanilla pastry cream.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until the edges are golden.
  10. Cool slightly, then sprinkle sugar over the pastry cream.
  11. Caramelize the sugar with a kitchen torch until crispy.
  12. Allow to cool before serving.
